Elegant Stairs and Rails began in 1986 with John Hoinski who built up a business building stairs for clients all over the East End of Long Island, and as far away as Ireland! Then in 2006, the business passed to Hugo Lawton, keeping it ‘in the family.” Hugo and his long-time staff have been expanding the business since bringing his own attention to detail, insight into stair design and creative workmanship.
Originally in Wading River, it later relocated into one of the Grumman hangers on the Calverton base in 2005 and then moved into it’s current home in 2013 expanding into its own building where Hugo and crew continue to fabricate stairs being installed all over Long Island, Metropolitan New York City and beyond.
As a long time Scouter and Eagle Scout, Hugo has donated stairs for building on the Suffolk County Boy Scouts of America camp grounds, one of which
was in the McMorris Lodge memorial cabin.
